There are times that God wants to get our attention. He may do this through adverse experiences, through the inevitable challenges, tragedies, and setbacks of life. It is through these things when we must trust in Him to see us through and to give us strength to persevere.
But, I also believe that there are often times when God is trying to get our attention through good things. A good day is a blessing, to be sure – but could it also be more than that?
Thursday I hopped on a plane out of Denver. Our first stop was Albuquerque.
I’ve never visited, but always wanted to. We descended through perfect blue skies, mountains encircled us. The small city, its river and canals, its gridded downtown streets, rose up to meet us. It reminded me very much of Provo, Utah – one of my favourite places for a weekend of solace and solitude. I decided right then to make this a destination in the near future.
After taking off again, we passed over the southern edge of Phoenix right at sunset. The clouds were thicker, and the sun just above the horizon cast long, deep red colour over the city and the jetstream above.
As we passed overhead, I raised my Dewar’s and prayed over friends down below. When that was done, I warmed myself with coffee and read quietly until we touched down into a brightly lit and drizzly San Diego.
